Posted October 08, 2018 10:07:17 New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan says she is “extremely frustrated” by comments from her office that state officials are “trying to manipulate the outcome of an election”.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Democratic governor’s communications director, Andrea McQueary, said she was “not pleased” that the state had “put out a press release claiming the election results will be null and void” if the state’s two-person congressional delegation fails to gather at least a majority of the state voting population.
“That is not what our elections are about.
It is not fair to the people of New Hampshire,” Ms McQuody said.”
Ms McQuighty did not elaborate on why the statement was being released by the governor’s official website.”
We will take that vote, and we will make sure that it is a fair and accurate vote, because this is a state election.”
Ms McQuighty did not elaborate on why the statement was being released by the governor’s official website.
The release came hours after the New Hampshire Secretary of State, Tom Miller, released a letter to the Associated Press, which has been the only source of information on the electoral process in New England.
“It is the position of the State of New England that all of the electors who are eligible to cast ballots in New York will be able to vote,” Ms Miller wrote.
“This includes the electors from New Hampshire who will be eligible to vote in New Mexico, which will include the three electors who were in the room when the election was certified by New York’s secretary of state.”
Ms Miller added that the New Jersey governor, Chris Christie, had sent his own letter to voters in New Jersey.
“Mr Christie, a former Republican governor, is also one of New Jersey’s two electors, and he has informed the Secretary of Assembly and Governor that he is eligible to exercise his franchise to cast his vote,” Mr Miller wrote in a letter dated Wednesday.
“Therefore, the election will be certified on November 8 and New Jersey will have the first-ever statewide vote in its history.”‘
We’re the only ones who have been told’The Governor’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In the letter, Ms Miller said the state would not have the same number of electoral votes if it had the two-member Democratic congressional delegation.
The New Hampshire Democratic Party has long opposed New Hampshire’s electoral process.
“Our goal in all of this is to put our state on a level playing field, which means no one has a right to manipulate an election, and that includes the Governor,” Mr McQuairy said in a statement on Thursday.
“If this election is about the people and the elections are not about politics, we need to start by fixing the electoral system.”
