Bahrainis take to the streets in protest against the coup attempt
Bahrainis have taken to the street in protest at the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman.
They took to the Al-Madinah Square in the city of Manama on Sunday evening to demonstrate against the alleged coup attempt and to call for a nationwide sit-in.
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Ali Al-Faisal said in a statement on Sunday that the country’s constitution “was breached”, and that the government would respond with the strongest possible response.
“Our country is facing a serious threat of an attempted coup,” Al-Fiadhal said.
“We call on the international community to stand united in its solidarity with Bahrain and its people in their struggle against terrorism and terrorism threats.
The Bahraini people deserve a government that respects and supports them and not the ones who want to impose their extremist agenda.”
The country’s parliament voted on Monday to impeach the government, which took power following a referendum in March.
