US forces help plant new weed farms
- July 18, 2021
A US-led mission to help farmers grow marijuana plants in Florida is taking a leaf out of the book of international growers by training them to plant and harvest the plant.
The U.S. is helping growers train new US military operators to plant the plants at a special operations command facility, the Joint Task Force-Operation Green Light.
A new task force has also been set up to train other military operators on how to use the cannabis plant for growing food and fiber, the U.K.-based group said on its website.
The task force, set up in 2017 by the U:S.
military, will be led by the Air Force.
The joint task force was set up by the Department of Defense in 2016 to support the growing of marijuana as a military crop, said U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
